iOS 4.1 update now available

Apple has just released the new iOS 4.1 update for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 2nd Generation, iPod Touch 3rd generation and iPod Touch 4th Generation. To install the update to you iDevice simply connect your it to iTunes and update it. This update is not going to bring huge changes to your iDevice but still it will fix many bugs and that makes it a worthy update. Tell us about your experience in the comments below.

iPod Touch 4G camera vs iPhone 4 camera (Video)

Here is a comparison video in which a Youtube user has compared cameras on Apple iPhone 4 and newly released iPod Touch 4G. As you can see above in the image and the video embedded here there is a major difference between the cameras of the two Apple products, and that was expected because iPod Touch 4G only sports a VGA camera whereas iPhone 4 has a 5 megapixel camera. Both the devices record HD videos but iPhone 4′s video quality obviously not comparable with iPod Touch’s. See the video and know for yourself.

Apps getting more popular at iTunes than music

Asymco has released a report that suggests that not only the number of apps and song downloads are increasing every month on iTunes but app downloads are increasing even faster. The number of apps downloaded per month is so large that if we compare it with the song downloads then we will see that the app downloads now have reached (after 2.2 years of launch) where song downloads reached after 5 years of launch.

This study also tells us that apps are more popular at iTunes when compared to music on it and the number of app downloads will soon pass the song downloads if the trend continues.

Apple iPod Shuffle, Unboxed and tear downed

These guys at iFixit are just amazing, they were not only the first ones who got this small Apple music player into their hand but also they were the first ones to tear down its parts. Then there are lucky guys from iLounge who took the unboxing pictures and posted them on Flickr for us and the world to see. Did you preordered too? iPod Touch makes up 37.7% of all iOS devices

According to a report published by Asymco iPod Touch possesses about 37.7% share of all the iOS devices sold. The number they have given about the total number of iPod Touches sold is 45.2 million. They have also noted that if the sales of the iPad continue as they are at the moment then the non cellular devices will take upto 50% of the total iOS devices share (other 50% for of course for the iPhone).

We should also note that iPod Touch now has a Facetime feature that would definitely boost its sales and also other features such as long awaited camera and the retina display has also been added to it.

Apple at its 1st September event refreshed its iPod Nano and made it ultra nano. Not only they added some new features but they also pulled back some of them, as you might know that the new iPod Nano does not have a camera at its back and also it cannot play video, but now it sports a multitouch screen and is very easy to carry. The screen has been made smaller and clickwheel has been removed from the new model as well. You can see whats new and whats missing in the comparison table here.

Google to launch iTunes competitor at Christmas

Google is planning to launch iTunes rival at the Christmas this year. According to Reuters Google is planning to launch a music service like Apple’s iTunes and that has been warmly appreciated by the music industry. iTunes is very popular and it sells almost 70% of the music online in the United States and that might be the thing that would have fascinated Google to release their own candidate.

Google would definitely aim its software to integrate with all the Android devices and will provide iTunes like services to its Android OS users like Apple provides to iOS users. Here is what an executive said “What you’ll have is a very powerful player in the market that’s good for the music business.”

Google’s music player if released would be a major player in the market and a tough competition for Apple and its iTunes but for that we will have to wait until the end of this year.

Apple posts iPad iOS 4.2 software update page

Apple has posted a page on its official website that reminds the iPad users about the upcoming update that will bring some new features for the iPad. The iOS 4.2 update will be given in November for free to the iPad users, iOS 4.2 will bring multitasking, home screen folders, wireless document printing, AirPlay (streaming audio/video), Game Center, a unified inbox, text search in the Safari web browser, as well as a handful of other modifications.

iPod Touch 4G vs iPhone 4 (comparison)

Steve Jobs in the official iPod event yesterday said that iPod Touch is the iPhone without calls and he meant it because when he announced the new features of iPod Touch it became very clear that the only difference between the iPod Touch 4G and the iPhone 4 is that iPod Touch cannot make calls, other than that iPod Touch has all the features that are sported by iPhone 4 such as Facetime, Retina display, camera, gaming and everything else. Apple yesterday revealed the latest iPod Nano and made it ultra small. The new iPod Nano television ads are now live on Apple.com and Apple’s official Youtube channel. The ad feature song that you might have heard before, the song in this ad is the theme song of NBC’s show Chuck i.e Cake’s Short Skirt/Long Jacket. Watch the ad embedded here.
