Youtube has been blocked in Pakistan due to some sacrilegious caricatures of Prophet Muhammad(P.B.U.H) on the site as told by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority official. The blockage came after hours Pakistan authorities directed ISPs to stop public’s access to Facebook due to online draw Muhammad competition. The competition’s fan page on Facebook is itself violation of Facebook’s own policies against the spread of hatred and violation and violation of human rights pertaining to one’s religion. Youtube was also blocked back in 2007 due to similar issue.

The blockage of Youtube will have a impact on overall transfer of data of the country as  it eats upto 20 to 25 percent of country’s total traffic

Update: We are now getting news that PTA has also blocked , Flickr and Wikipedia as well including thousand other websites over blasphemous content.

We have got some clues of Youtube’s recent blockage in Pakistan. As it is now accessible but some videos that were intended to make fun of the Pakistani President Zardari are still blocked and are not accessible. Sources first said that it was done in mistake but now we can say that the mistake was that in trying to block some videos the guys doing it blocked the whole site (ie Youtube). So it clearly indicates that government of Pakistan is responsible for the blockage of the video sharing website and they have still blocked some videos featuring Mr Asif Ali Zardari who is the President of the Country.

Youtube which is the world’s most popular video sharing website has been blocked in Pakistan as it is not accessible at the moment with the message “This Site is Restricted” .We can’t tell that it has been blocked here by the government or due to some other error. Pakistan has blocked the site before as well due to some objectionable material over it. We will update you with more information as we get it.

Update: YouTube is now accessible after being restricted for more than an hour. Sources are telling that it was blocked mistakenly during policy filtering.
